About Judy

Judy founded the Pedlar River Institute as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 1997. Operating mainly as Friends of the Pedlar, it created positive ripple effects locally and widely for nearly two decades. Judy created this blog to celebrate the wonders of the wildlands and the more-than-human world still out there doing the real work of saving the planet, though humans are making that job a mighty hard task.

    • I have owned property fronting the Pedlar River downstream of the Pedlar Reservoir for 20+ years now. The river was the reason I chose to live here.It concerns and saddens me greatly to see it dry up each summer. Often it can be crossed (30-40 feet) without getting your feet wet.

  3. Is anyone else noticing the low levels of water in Horsley Creek? We have had decent rain, but it keeps getting lower. It feeds into the Pedlar.

  4. The Pedlar River and Horseley Creek (major tributary) have been an important part of my life for the past two decades. The confluence constituted the boundary of my front yard and visited me in that space from time to time. My children grew up wading, swimming and fishing in their waters. It sang us to sleep on many nights. Beyond my life, the Pedlar has defined a community along it banks for generations of people since the 18th century. To say that it deserves our respect and protection is an understatement. Sadly, the changes that are taking place in the watershed diminish the stream and threaten the overall wellbeing of all who live along its course.
